My Mom’s Birthday | Maui Photography
If you are new to this blog, you may not know that my mom passed away last August after a short battle with throat cancer. She lived near me for the last 10 years of her life and helped me raise my 4 kids and babysat so I could work and was a daily presence in our lives. We really really miss her. I can’t say it enough. We really miss her.
Today is her birthday. Every year I would do something with her to make it special. Trying my hardest to make up for all my busyness during the year and the times I was short with her or snippy in the way we can be with people who we love and are around us enough to annoy us ocassionally. I would try to show her how much I loved her. I wish I had done it every single day instead. But last year we had pedicures and facials and hung out all day with zero kids. That did not happen often.
Yesterday I had a meeting with a bride in Kihei and the kids were out of school for Prince Kuhio day so I took them all down to Makena to the beach where we scattered my mom’s ashes, or part of them. We said a prayer, took a few photos (cuz thats what I do), and just hung out. The younger kids played. The older ones sulked. Typical day. And I cried. Just a bit.
Did I mention that we miss her? Alot?
Photos from our day… Shot with a lomo-wide — my favorite toy camera. Complete with water housing so it can get wet.
